Maybe this is just my experience but I always see these gift guides come out around this time of year for book lovers and when I scroll through the list I think to myself, “I really would not want anything on this list”. Don’t get me wrong, some of them are really cool, but for the most part I am not interested in receiving anything that is Harry Potter themed, or mugs that say that I like reading, or tote bags, or anything else like that.
And so I thought to myself, “Why not make a holiday gift guide for booklovers for things that a booklover actually would like?”
So, here it is. A gift guide for booklovers, by a booklover. Hope this helps you on your hunt for the perfect gift!
- A Signed Copy / Collector’s Copy / Special Edition Copy of Their Favorite Book. A book with sprayed edges… chef’s kiss. Trust me, any booklover will treasure it forever!
- Bookshelf Insert Diorama / Book Nook. These miniature book inserts are the cutest!
- A Copy of Your Favorite Book. Bonus points if you hand write a letter about why it is your favorite. Extra bonus points if you have used colored flags to emphasize your personal thoughts while reading the book (just don’t actually write in the book though because that is a crime – but that’s just my personal opinion). Trust me, this is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can gift a booklover -EVER!
- Favorite Author/ Book Event Ticket. See if there are any events nearby and plan a date with them to attend the event. Trust me, the look on their face will be worth it.
- Personalized Bookstore “Credit” Certificate. Create a custom certificate that promises a “book shopping date” with you, where you both can choose books, have coffee, and spend the day talking about what you’re finding. It’s like gifting them a day dedicated to browsing books and sharing the joy with you. Plus, you don’t have to worry about buying them a book that they already have.
- Blind Date with a Book. Select a few books you think they’d love, wrap them in brown paper with only genre hints or vague themes written on the cover. Let them unwrap each one like a “blind date,” whenever they feel like reading something new. Some stores also sell these too!
- A Leather-Bound Journal. You know the ones… you see them in the movies and are like, “Wow, they’re writing about their adventures in there!” and a small part of us book lovers want that experience too. Though, I also think a satchel would be cool so that might just be a me thing.
- Personalized Book Marks. Because dog-earing a page is an unforgivable offense.
- Blankets. There’s no such thing as too many cozy items. Curling up with a blanket, cat in lap with a hot chocolate, book in hand…. It’s the simple things in life. Plus, I’m always cold.
- Creative Writing Workshop Voucher. This might be more for the book lover who also like to write but I’ve always thought that these would be neat to attend.
- Bookish Magnets, Enamel Pins, or Stickers. Yes, I am a child at heart. Sue me!
- Book Themed Cross-Stitch Pattern. And yes, I am also elderly at heart too… Multi-faceted personalities make far more interesting characters haha.
And if all these fail… well a gift card to a bookstore is almost always welcomed! 😊
